The progressive commissioning of the Bella Unión Bridge on 17 July is a major step for the regeneration of the ring road of the Peruvian capital. This three-lane 300-meter bridge, which ends several years of cut-off between the two banks of the Rimac River, responds to the growing aspirations of the inhabitants of Lima for smooth mobility thanks to a bike path in both directions and several pedestrian crossings. Its construction required more than 200 000 hours of work without any accidents to deplore.
VINCI Highways, a subsidiary of VINCI Concessions, is responsible for the operation, maintenance and collection of tolls, as well as the construction of a new 9-km expressway incorporating a tunnel under the Rimac, 9 viaducts and an interchange. The Lima ring road is used every day by nearly 140,000 vehicles.
