eMagBelgrade airport: scaling up through the concession model
Since the signing of the concession agreement for Belgrade Airport, operated by VINCI Airports, the results speak for themselves: passenger traffic has increased by nearly 60%, more than 100 destinations are now served and over €360 million has been invested. Through infrastructure modernisation, enhanced passenger experience, strengthened connectivity and accelerated decarbonisation, the airport has undergone a profound transformation to support traffic growth and reinforce its role as a regional hub.
Rapid growth driven by a long-term vision
Since 2018, Belgrade Airport, operated by VINCI Airports, has significantly changed scale. The number of destinations served has almost doubled, rising from around 60 to more than 100, while passenger traffic has grown by nearly 60% compared with 2018.
This momentum is based on a forward-looking investment strategy, designed from the outset of the concession to support growth and structure the hub’s long-term development — an approach that lies at the heart of the model developed by VINCI Concessions.
A transformation visible at every level
Over the past eight years, the airport has undergone major modernisation across runways, terminals, passenger journeys and environmental performance:
- Complete reconstruction of the main runway, a first in 60 years;
- Creation of a new runway and rapid-exit taxiways to streamline operations and increase airport capacity;
- 12 new boarding gates and 11 new aircraft stands created;
- An expanded and modernised terminal;
- More check-in counters, centralised security screening, electronic passport control systems and commercial areas tripled in size;
- Deployment of a 1 MWp solar power plant and implementation of a trigeneration system to improve the infrastructure’s energy efficiency.
The result: an airport capable of absorbing traffic growth while improving operational fluidity, service quality and environmental performance.

The concession model as an accelerator
Beyond the figures, the trajectory of Belgrade Airport fully illustrates the strength of the concession model. By entrusting the operation and development of its airport to an integrated operator such as VINCI Airports, Serbia benefits from a model that combines investment capacity, operational expertise and a long-term vision.
This framework makes it possible to rapidly implement transformative projects while ensuring continuous improvement in performance, service quality and territorial attractiveness - a balance that lies at the core of VINCI Concessions’ approach.
An ambition focused on growth and decarbonisation
The ambition is to reach 15 million annual passengers by 2045. To achieve this, investments are continuing, notably with the extension of Terminal C, which will accommodate new boarding gates. At the same time, the airport is accelerating its environmental transition through the deployment of a 1 MWp solar plant, the implementation of a trigeneration system - enabling the simultaneous production and recovery of electricity, heating and cooling - and a 36% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2018.

An airport becoming a driver of regional development
In just a few years, Belgrade Airport has become much more than a modernised infrastructure asset. It is now positioning itself as a driver of development for its region. This transformation provides a concrete illustration of VINCI Concessions’ ability to design, finance and operate sustainable infrastructure serving the mobility needs of today and tomorrow.
