Guanacaste airport (LIR) is located in Costa Rica, the most visited country in Central America with more than three million foreign tourists every year.

Guanacaste airport joined the VINCI Airports network in 2018, after the acquisition of the portfolio held by Airports Worldwide in 2018 which included a 45% stake in Guanacaste airport in Liberia.

It was one of the first airports in the world to receive the Airport Health Accreditation from the ACI in 2020. The airport also received the Best Airport Award for Quality of Service from the ACI for the second year. In 2023, Guanacaste airport was named the best airport in its region (ACI’s “ASQ Best airport by size and region” award) and was awarded the prize for the “best passenger journey” at Guanacaste Airport.

Regarding the environment, Guanacaste airport was recognized as carbon neutral by the non-profit organisation EARTH University in 2017. In 2021, it joins the ACI’s carbon reduction programme by achieving ACA Level 2 accreditation for its environmental actions.

In December 2020, Guanacaste Airport inaugurated a new route with Los Angeles International Airport, California, operated by JetBlue airline.

Preserving the environment

Guanacaste Airport was recognised as carbon neutral by the non-profit organisation EARTH University in 2017.

In 2021, it will join the ACI’s carbon reduction programme by achieving ACA Level 2 accreditation for its environmental actions. This new accreditation illustrates the steps the airport is taking to measure, manage and reduce its carbon footprint, such as implementing LED lighting and introducing more efficient air conditioning equipment.
