VINCI Concessions acquired the concession contract for the Via Pribina expressway in Slovakia in 2009 through a company in which it holds a 50% stake.

The contract involves the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of a 45.9‑km four‑lane expressway between Nitra and Tekovské Nemce to the east of Bratislava and the Banska Bystrica bypass to the north. The contract ends in 2041.

The R1 project of the Via Pribina expressway is the first and one of the largest public‑private partnerships in Slovakia to reach financial close in Central Europe. It had become necessary to build such extensive infrastructure to improve the safety of pedestrians and drivers by bypassing urban centres. The expressway has also helped to boost economic development in the region by making it easier for people to get about and traffic to flow more smoothly.
