VINCI Concessions was awarded the concession for the bridges on the Tagus through a company in which it holds a 49,5% stake. The project involves two bridges – the 17.2-km long Vasco de Gama bridge, 12.3 km of which span the Tagus River, and the 2.25-km long 25 de Abril bridge. These two structures cross the Tagus estuary in Lisbon, Portugal.

The concession contract, which will end in 2030, includes the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the Vasco de Gama bridge and the operation and maintenance of the 25 de Abril bridge.

Opened in 1996, the 25 de Abril bridge is one of the largest suspension bridges in the world, with a central span on 3,280 feet (nearly 1,000 m) and a total length of 2.5 km.

The Vasco da Gama Bridge (12.3 km) was built between 1994 and 1998 by VINCI and Mota-Engil to relieve congestion on the 25 de Abril Bridge and to promote the development of the south margin of the river, and was considered at that time the longest bridge in Europe, being in this sense a very relevant milestone for Lusoponte and their shareholders.

In 2021, average fee-paying traffic on the two bridges amounted to 90,000 vehicles/day.
