Las Américas Airport

Holding:

100%

End of contract (year):

2060

Over the last decade, the Dominican Republic has undergone record levels of economic expansion, with growth of around 5% per year on average. This momentum has primarily been driven by the country’s buoyant tourism industry, which inevitably depends on its airport infrastructure.

Since the acquisition of Aerodom (Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI SA) in 2016, VINCI Airports has been operating six airports in the Dominican Republic, including Las Américas in Santo Domingo, the country’s capital.

With the transformation of the passenger terminal in 2019, the inauguration of the cargo terminal in 2020 or the creation of a solar power plant, the modernisation of Las Américas International Airport is accompanying the country's economic development and providing a better quality of service, an improved passenger experience and a reduced environmental footprint.

At the end of 2023, the Government of the Dominican Republic granted VINCI Airports a 30-year extension of its current concession contract, originally scheduled for 2030.

OPENING UPNEW OPPORTUNITIES

A key platform for economic development

At the beginning of November 2020, Santo Domingo's Las Americas airport officially opened the doors of its new cargo terminal, with a 6,800 sq. metre warehouse. The work, carried out by VINCI Construction Grands Projets and representing an investment of around €14 million, will facilitate the development of Dominican exports by bringing together in a single space all the players and services in the freight transport chain.

Improving passenger experience

Construction of a new cargo terminal, redesign of the car park, improvement of services... Las Américas airport is being modernised, in particular by focusing on passenger comfort. The central hall, which will be 2,595 m2 after the work, offers a vast panorama of the runways. Free and unlimited Wifi, as well as numerous bars and restaurants, make waiting times more pleasant. Finally, a real-time passenger satisfaction evaluation system enables the airport teams to intervene as quickly as possible.

ChallengeMet

Responsible airport management

Since joining the VINCI Airports network, Aerodom has multiplied its initiatives to preserve the environment and reduce the carbon footprint of its activities.

More than 10,000 solar panels are now installed at Las Americas airport, whose solar power plant has a production capacity of 3.6 MWp. Aerodom has thus become the first private company in the Dominican Republic to produce solar energy with more than 6.8MW installed in the 6 airports it operates.

Santo Domingo airport also installed five charging stations for electric vehicles in 2020.

As further proof of its commitment, Las Americas became the first airport in the Dominican Republic (along with La Isabela, also operated by VINCI Airports) to certify its environmental management system to the international ISO 14001 standard, demonstrating the implementation of an effective environmental management system that enables the airport operator to reduce the environmental footprint of its activities in a continuous and sustainable manner.
