End of contract (year):

2047

In 2016, VINCI Airports signed a concession contract to operate Lyon Saint Exupéry Airport with the aim of making the aviation hub one of the highest performing in Europe and a major driver of airport innovations.

In 2019, Lyon-Saint Exupéry became the first French airport in ten years to receive the ACI award for best European airport in its category. Just three years after joining the VINCI Airports network and becoming its largest hub in France, this award recognises the new business project and the hard work of the teams in providing a better service to passengers.

Like the entire VINCI Airports network, Lyon Airport is also fully committed to ensuring its environmental transition, as it is already carbon neutral.

OPENING UP NEW OPPORTUNITIES

Innovations that benefit passengers and the entire airport network

In 2019, Lyon-Saint Exupéry became one of the VINCI Airports' centres of excellence, dedicated to passenger experience innovation programme. Its expertise and services benefit not only its passengers but also the entire VINCI Airports network.

Chatbot, home luggage delivery, Smart Welcome to offer a "phygital" welcome to passengers in the terminals, there is no shortage of ideas!

After trialling for the first time in the world the Stan robot valet service in 2017, which has since been extended to more than 2,500 seats, VINCI Airports launched another world first at Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport in 2020 with MONA: an innovative service based on facial recognition that allows travellers to go through all the stages, from baggage check-in to boarding, simply by showing their face, without border control.

An environmentally aware airport

In 2017, Lyon‑Saint Exupéry Airport became the first airport in France to obtain Level 3+ certification in the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, meaning it is now recognised as carbon neutral.

Since 2011, all of the electricity used in the airport is generated from renewable energy. The airport is continuing to make strides; shuttle buses fuelled solely by biogas were brought into service in 2018. A few months later, the airport implemented the Green On bike‑share scheme. Now, the 2,700 employees from the 25 companies that have joined the airport’s Corporate Travel Plan can take advantage of the environmentally friendly mode of transport.

100% of the waste is also recovered.

Challenge Met

Cutting edge programme management

VINCI Airports uses advanced techniques such as econometrics to understand the market and how it is changing. By accurately anticipating emerging trends in the industry, Lyon‑Saint Exupéry Airport is able to systematically reach and even exceed its goals, developing its transport infrastructure in line with a long‑term vision.

Developing connectivity

In 2019, Volotea, a long-standing partner of VINCI Airports, opens its new base at Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport.

The following year, the airport will offer a new connection between the Qatari capital and France's second largest city with a Lyon-Doha route operated by Qatar Airways.
