VINCI Airports has been deploying since 2012 its global model at Nantes Atlantique Airport: long-term partnerships with all airports’ stakeholders (airlines, public authorities, tourism industry actors), improvement of passenger experience, rollout of environment policy.

Since VINCI Airports took on the concession at Nantes Atlantique and Saint-Nazaire Montoir in 2011, it has consistently demonstrated its determination to harness the airport infrastructure to benefit the regions they serve.

These two regional airports have helped improve mobility and boost the economy in the west of France by doubling both the number of airlines operating out of the airport and tourists travelling to the area, and generate over 3,000 direct jobs, support 13,250 jobs in Loire-Atlantique, and contribute €0.9 billion to the regional GDP, including €744 million in Loire-Atlantique, according to the latest Utopies study (conducted in 2020 based on 2019 data).

Despite infrastructure constraints, service quality and passenger experience have improved considerably (87% satisfaction rate among passengers leaving Nantes Atlantique, up 1.3 points between 2017 and 2019) by enhancing services, introducing major developments in car parks and retail areas as well as optimising flow management.

Not to mention the significant environmental progress made by implementing VINCI Airports’ environment plan, consistently supporting social cohesion in the region and boosting its cultural appeal, as reflected in the charitable initiatives and involvement of the Fondation VINCI pour la Cité in local charitable projects.

OPENING UP NEW OPPORTUNITIES

Focusing on the quality of service

In a context marked by strong traffic growth and a constrained environment, VINCI Airports has modernized the infrastructure and strengthened the offer of services to improve the passenger journey: free and unlimited Wi-Fi, self-bag-drop, online parking booking… In 2025, the airport is unveiling a fully renovated and diversified commercial offering, with 16 modernized retail outlets and new brands, enhancing the passenger experience. A fast-track service and continuous assistance for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) further improve passenger comfort and the airport’s overall accessibility.

Developing the connectivity of the territory

The airport has contributed to the development of mobility and the economy of the Greater West of France, with the number of airlines doubling and the establishment of long-term partnerships such as with easyJet, which since 2019 has been operating its sixth base in the VINCI Airports network, with three A320s now parked at the airport.

CHALLENGE MET

Comprehensive logistical support

Despite the covid-19 pandemic, air freight activities continued to serve the economy of the territories and to guarantee the supply of essential goods.

Nantes Atlantique airport was a major logistical platform, allowing an Antonov loaded with 11 million masks to land.

At the end of 2020, the BelugaXL, the world's largest cargo plane, also landed for the first time on the airport's tarmac.

An integrated environmental strategy

As the world’s first airport operator to introduce a global environmental policy (AirPact), VINCI Airports put sustainable development at the heart of the airport’s development. The results are here : in 2015, Nantes Atlantique obtained ACA accreditation (Airport Carbon Accreditation) and keeps working with airlines to ensure a controlled growth of aircraft movements (+7.8% aircraft movements growth compared to 16.6% in 2019).

In 2022, the airport was awarded the S3A label for its efforts to welcome people with physical and mental disabilities. Nantes Atlantique has also obtained ISO 9001 international certification standards for its quality management.

Certified in 2024 as “level 4” of the ACA (Airport Carbon Accreditation) and ISO 14001, Nantes Atlantique airport is developing within its territory by committing to reducing the environmental impact of its activity with the objective in particular to achieve “zero net emissions from its direct activities” by 2030. To reach ACA 4, the airport reduced its CO₂ emissions by nearly 50% between 2019 and 2025. One of the key initiatives was the electrification of the tarmac: co-financed for €15 million, this project includes 12 electrified aircraft stands and 100 electric vehicle charging points, resulting in an annual reduction of 2,400 tonnes of CO₂.
