End of contract (year):

2062

After acquiring ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal in 2013, VINCI Airports became the concession holder of 10 airports in Portugal for the next 50 years. Since then, the operation and modernisation of the platforms has enabled the 10 airports to increase the connectivity, improve the passenger experience and develop numerous initiatives to protect the environment.

One of the airports acquired was Porto, where part of the renovation work was completed in 2016. VINCI Airports redesigned the interior to improve safety and create a larger central atrium. Passengers can enjoy a smoother journey around a more attractive airport designed around this space.

OPENING UPNEW OPPORTUNITIES

Driving the economy

VINCI Airports has developed a major investment programme to modernise and enhance the retail areas of its Portuguese airports. Once the redesign of the retail area was completed in Porto, new services were made available, boosting the airport’s revenue from non aviation activities.

When an airline sets up its base in an airport, it is investing in its future development, which demonstrates a huge amount of trust

Developing the connectivity

By multiplying its partnerships with new airlines, Porto airport is guaranteeing long term future growth. Many of these airline companies have fallen for Porto over the last few years and decided to set up base there, including easyJet and Ryanair. These new collaborations have opened up the possibility of new routes, allowing the airport to expand its offer and attract new passengers.

Recently, Porto has launched new routes to other airports from VINCI Airports network: to Lyon with TAP and to Grenoble with Ryanair. A new route between Porto and Dubai airports is also now available and operated by Emirates.

Guaranteeing satisfaction

The major investment programme to modernise and improve customer service at Porto airport has begun to bear fruit. In early 2020, Porto was named Best European Airport in its category for the 13th time at the ACI ASQ Awards. In 2023, it was also named the best airport in its region (ACI’s “ASQ Best airport by size and region” award).

ChallengeMet

Reducing airport carbon emissions

In 2015, Porto airport was awarded Level 2 Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) — proof of its committed strategy to reduce carbon emissions. Today, all of the Portuguese airports managed by VINCI Airports hold the same level of ACA accreditation and are working together to reduce their environmental footprint.

In 2023, Porto Airport obtained ACA 4+ certification, the highest in the ACI’s environmental assessment programme. VINCI Airports received this environmental certification for all airports in Portugal, becoming the first country in the European Union to have its entire airport system (10 airports) certified ACA 4+. This certification recognises that airports have fully accounted and reported direct and indirect CO2 emissions related to their activities and operations, have significantly reduced their direct emissions, offset their residual direct emissions and started to reduce their indirect emissions.
